Nanotechnology – innovative approach with the development of materials and techniques for safeguarding cultural heritage
RO-CHER – Component project 2
50PCCDI/2018 – PC2
Component project 2 within the complex project Complex multidisciplinary project for monitoring, conservation, protection and promotion of the Romanian cultural heritage – RO-CHER
Project goal
The aim of the project is to provide practical solutions based on new antifungal recipes, to reduce the impact of biodegradation of objects and objectives belonging to cultural heritage.
The interdisciplinarity of the project is given by the connections between the complex activities and the human resource involved in these activities. The project involves cooperation between researchers with different specializations, in order to obtain optimal results through a holistic approach, which covers the entire spectrum of scientific perspective.
Contracting authority: Executive Unit for Financing Higher Education, Research, Development and Innovation (UEFISCDI)
Implementation period: 01/03/2018-30/06/2021
Total budget: 1.254.423 lei
Budget for the partner ICECHIM: 673.250 lei
Component project director: Dr. Chim. Irina Fierăscu
The main objective of the project is to provide practical solutions based on new antifungal recipes to reduce the impact of heritage biodegradation, recipes based on the use of soft nanomaterials, applicable in the form of xerogels or spray.
Exploiting the synergistic action of the materials used and establishing an optimal ratio between them is an element of scientific / technical novelty of the project, as well as the use of similar but individualized recipes for several types of artifacts – ceramic artifacts and paper artifacts.
All objectives include laboratory and field experiments (where applicable) and mathematical modeling of the results
Elaboration of the integrated research strategy in order to obtain innovative materials for conservation / restoration.
ICECHIM activities:
Application of the integrated strategy for obtaining soft nanomaterials; Establishing three-component recipes from mixtures of innovative nanomaterials and exploiting their synergistic action.
ICECHIM activities:
Partial demonstration of the functionality of the proposed solutions for the restoration / conservation of ceramic and paper artifacts.
