G6: Biotechnology & bioanalysis

About us

The 6th Research Group carries out research activities in the field of Biotechnology & Bioanalysis, the research directions being: 1. Biotechnologies for environmental protection and remediation  Biodegradation of waste and pollutants  Biotechnologies to remedy contamination 2. Agri-food and industrial biotechnologies for obtaining biologically active products  Microbial technologies for obtaining substances with antimicrobial properties  Pharmaceutical biotechnologies  Biotechnologies for obtaining products with uses in the light chemical and food industry (new sources of enzymes) 3. Bioanalysis methods for quality control of products and biotechnological processes in the field of health, environment and agri-food  Advanced methods and techniques of analysis, control and quality assurance of biotechnological substances and products  Development of sensors, biosensors and immunosensors for the detection of toxic compounds, pollutants and metabolites in the environment and agri-food products. Within the 6th reasearch group, there is a Collection of Microorganisms that contains fungi, yeasts and bacteria, which allows and supports the biotechnological approach of our research activities. Microorganisms have the ability to adapt to a variety of environmental conditions, their versatility making them useful for various biotechnological applications, such as removing pollutants from the environment, bioremediation or transformation into harmless compounds such as carbon dioxide and water. Enriching the collection of microorganisms by isolating them from various sources and maintaining them are of permanent concerns of microbiologists. The 6th research group is a multidisciplinary team, consisting in 2 chemists, 2 biochemists, 2 biologists, 1 engineer and 1 technician (3 CSI, 2 CSII, 2 CSIII; 6 doctors in science). The specialists our group actively participate in:  Evaluation of scientific research projects carried out at national (UEFISCDI) and European level (INTAS experts)  Review activity as references of specialized magazines from Romania and abroad – Roum. Biotechnol. Letters, Biosensors & Bioelectronics (Elsevier), Food Biotechnology, Sensors, Toxins, Biomachine, Biosensors, Bioelectrochemistry, Biomedical and Environmental Science, etc.  Supporting the activity of the Romanian Society of Bioengineering and Biotechnology (SRBB) (www.srbb.ro), an organization affiliated since 1993 to the European Biotechnology Federation  Didactic activities carried out in higher education institutions (University of Bucharest, Polytechnic University of Bucharest, etc.). Through Capacity project 49/CP/I/2007, the laboratories of the Biotechnology & Bioanalysis team were arranged according to GLP norms as follows:  Microbiology Laboratory (respecting the Rules of Good Laboratory Practice-RBPL regarding the flow of personnel, materials and samples)  Laboratory for (BIO) Sensors and optical methods of bioanalysis  Laboratory for Separation Methods
