The development of eco-friendly solutions based on silanes and nanoparticles for buildings and heritage consolidation
PN-IV-P7-7.1-PTE-2024-0522 (47PTE/2025)
The structures of buildings and monuments (those belonging to cultural heritage being a particular case of interest) are susceptible to deterioration caused by natural forces (such as weather, earthquakes and erosion), but also those resulting from anthropogenic actions. Climate change amplifies these risks, underlining the urgency of implementing strengthening measures to mitigate the impact on the environment.
Project goal
The goal of the project “Development of ecological solutions based on silanes and nanoparticles for the consolidation of buildings and monuments” (NanoConsol) is the transfer and development of a consolidation technology (based on innovative nanomaterials with self-repairing properties and antimicrobial effect), dedicated to different types of materials in the composition of buildings and monuments (especially immovable heritage objects), to an economic agent with experience in creating and applying solutions for the consolidation of such objects, in order to increase its economic competitiveness, as well as its implementation in target sites, in an integrated monitoring/consolidation technology, with the ultimate goal of achieving a viable technology for the consolidation of heritage buildings.
Contracting authority: Executive Unit for Financing Higher Education, Research, Development and Innovation (UEFISCDI)
Implementation period: 05/05/2025-04/05/2027
Project total budget: 1.896.075 lei
Budget for the partner ICECHIM: 373.275 lei
Project responsible: Dr. Habil. Radu Claudiu Fierăscu

The project is intended to support compliance with Article 3(3) of the Treaty on European Union (which provides that the Union “shall ensure that Europe’s cultural heritage is protected and enhanced”), and through Article 167(2) undertakes common actions leading to “the conservation and safeguarding of cultural heritage of European importance”). At the same time, although the legislative framework exists (either through the adoption of international regulations by national legislation or through the development of its own specific legislative measures), cases of buildings belonging to the immovable cultural heritage that are at risk or that have, in the meantime, disappeared can often be encountered.
