G13: Cryo-TEM electron microscopy

The microscope can be used to: – classical TEM (BF-TEM, DF-TEM, HR-TEM) – electron diffraction (ED, SAED, CBED) – scanning transmission electron microscopy (HR-STEM, DF, HAADF, BF) analyses on material and life science samples, as well. – tomography studies and elemental analysis (EDX) are possible (single point, line profile, mapping).
The laboratory is also equipped with a Vitrobot™ for freezing samples in vitreous ice by plunging the grid in liquid ethane. This method minimizes or avoids completely the damage done to the structure of different entities at room temperature. Apart from this, vitreous ice is transparent to the electron beam.
